The ability to be hands-on is so important when teaching about charity!   Bridgeway wants to help out too, so any student who participates in these activities can turn in receipts or proof of participation for community service hours. With our high school students needing 15 service hours per year, and colleges and even trade schools wanting to see students volunteering, this is a great way to start adding hours to their transcript.

See our list below for recommendations of ways you can serve. Bridgeway Academy is not associated with these organizations and the following list is provided only to give our students ideas for earning their community service hours. Participation in any of these particular opportunities is not required.

CWS: This organization gives families a chance to make a variety of kits for families facing a crisis. Everything from hygiene to refugee aid to emergency clean-up buckets and backpacks for students. Go to the link here for information on how to build them. There are also directions for mailing or drop off.  https://cwskits.org/assemble-kits/ Hours: Three service hours per box assembled and sent. Purchase of shipping label is required. Must submit picture of box before shipping in order to receive service hours.

Give Back Box: There are a wide variety of donations you can make through this website, helping everyone from domestic violence victims, to the disabled, to abandoned pets, refugees, special interests and more! Check out what is in each option for donating. It could be clothing, handmade goods, household items, or even electronics. You choose your charity, purchase a label, fill a box with the requested items, and send it off.  https://givebackbox.shop/  HoursThree service hours per box assembled and sent. Operation Christmas Child: Their national donation week is November 13th-20th , but it is so much fun to pack a shoebox or three for a child in need. Our Beta students love building shoebox gifts for the older children, as those tend to be left behind. Billion Graves: For those who like to adventure out, this has become a popular volunteer organization among our Beta students. It doesn’t cost anything, but it provides valuable genealogy/ancestry information. This is a great option for rural families who know of small plots spread out on old farms or churches and for our international families. https://billiongraves.com/  Hours: Log the hours taking photos, transcribing, and uploading.

Zooniverse: The world’s largest platform for people-powered research is also a great way to earn service hours because the student is doing! More than a million people around the world come together to assist professional researchers at Zooniverse. There are projects for all ages and abilities and for our international students too. https://www.zooniverse.org/ Hours: Log the hours spent completing the research tasks and list which tasks you helped with.

*Submit the listed information to your academic advisor to receive community service hours for any of the above activities.
